I’m Vicky Smith and I make jam. I know; it surprised me too!
I inherited a love of fruit from my Mum who was an excellent grower-gardener, and someone that always favoured a berry compote over a steamed pud.
It did start by accident though.
I have a food and creative background - I’ve done all sorts of catering, and trained in interior design. After having my daughter and moving from London to the Yorkshire Dales in 2006, I began photographing the countryside around me whilst out exploring with the dog (that's him on the left). I found wild fruit in the hedgerows behind our house and began making preserves, then wrote a blog about my attempts to sell these products at our local WI market. I found the combination of jam making, writing and photography very satisfying.
I sold at other fairs and markets, experimenting with flavour combinations and refining my technique until I found a niche for the special, high fruit content, soft-set jams I was making. I then included a range of marmalade, fruit jelly and fruit butter and soon friends were asking to be sent products regularly, either for themselves or as gifts to others. The JAMSMITH monthly subscription idea was born:
I send you two special, seasonal and unique small-batch preserves each month via a membership subscription.
It's important to me that my preserves are visually beautiful as well as delicious. Everything is carefully made, labelled, personalised and packaged by me, at home, before being sent out around the UK. I hope it gives you as much pleasure to gift or receive my products as I get from making them.
Welcome to JAMSMITH!
